Snow Laden Vacancy

On solid, snowy ground, atop feet planted firmly
Eyes searching frantically for a fleeting, welcoming glance
A strawberry blond pony tail bobbing to and fro
The white dusted trees scattered strategically around the lawn
Desiring a lone smile, that calms a thousand babies
Relaying an undeniable message of trust and loyalty

Alas it is merely a winter wonderland
In this empty field, void of feeling, void of comfort
Met only by a whirlwind of crisp bright flakes
Left in solitude, in the bitter cold
Surrounded by an unrelenting blinding light
The darkness within restricts the ability to move forward

Straining desperately for a distant echo
Sweet sounding laughter
Flowing smooth and thick like fresh poured honey
A 'hello' bound by a thousand smiles
Laced with the radiant glow of love
And glimmering hope for a better tomorrow

Enclosed instead, by thundering vibrations
Black, rubber tires pounding passionately
Winding, gravel covered, country tar roads
Whispering winds surrounding as a reminder
Yesteryear appears brighter than tomorrow
The abyss envelops the senses with deafening silence

Closed eyes entice lost memories
Through the haze, out they come to play
The sensations of a soothing embrace
Overwhelming emotions securely locked away
Bittersweet joy accompanies visions
Recalling summer days spent together

Heavy eyelids, lifting slowly open
Harsh reality intrudes forcefully through
Dampening the glimmer of tomorrow
Smoldering the remaining strands of happiness
A dark world thrusts a forbidden journey ahead
Terrified and destitute, a heavy foot lifts hesitantly
Embarking upon an uncharted path.
